What is THE ROX?
THE ROX is a hybrid fitness event held inside a shopping centre, the A10 Center in Wildau just outside Berlin. It was founded and is hosted by Andy Hagedorn, a personal trainer from the Berlin-Brandenburg fitness community.
The format combines running laps with functional workout stations such as burpee broad jumps, lunges and navy shuttle runs, with judges checking movement standards and electronic timing. Races start in timed slots throughout the day: single runs for women and men, mixed doubles, women's and men's doubles, a mixed team of four (two women, two men), and a kids' run for ages 8 to 14. The organiser says a basic level of fitness is enough and participants set their own pace, so it is aimed at newcomers as well as regular athletes. The shopping-centre setting means racing takes place in front of mall visitors, with partner stands and a warm-up area on site.
What is TYRUN?
TYRUN is a seasonal fitness race series in Belgium and the Netherlands, run by TYRUN B.V. Each season brings a new workout with new exercises, distances and standards, and races during the season count towards a leaderboard and a season final.
The Season 2 course is four laps, each a 600 m run followed by two stations, for 2.4 km of running and eight stations in total: Echo Bike, seated sled pull, weighted step-ups, med ball sit-ups, a 1,000 m row, devil's presses, a 1,000 m SkiErg and a sandbag carry over a yoke. Athletes race as singles or doubles in Scaled, Open or Pro divisions, which change only the loads and calories, or as four-person relay teams in Open. Most athletes finish in 60 to 90 minutes and there is no cut-off. Season 2 stops include Liège, Hasselt, Amsterdam (Vijfhuizen) and Antwerp, with the finals in Ghent. The Scaled division is aimed at first-time racers.
